I don't mean to be punny but this skirt was quite literally love at first sight. It's such a fun print to play around with, plus its in monochrome. Sold~ Granted, I'm not being particularly adventurous here but I think the white on white happening above makes up for it. Like, is the necklace really there or not?!

I guess that's why I'm so mildly obsessed with clothes and Fashion in general. Its more than just pieces of cloth sewn together and those thousand-dollar price tags are actually justifiable. As an art student, I've seen firsthand how art has the power to communicate and tell stories. Well, I believe that Fashion can too. What you wear is more than just avoiding a nudity-in-public charge, its your way of communicating with the world at large. Its an art form in its own right, which is why my reverence for big name brands goes beyond my materialism. I really, really respect the effort behind the designs, and maybe because I'm from an art background, I truly appreciate the craftsmanship and I understand how hard the design process can be (which is why I avoid buying "inspired" pieces).

This is kind of a weird story but when I was growing up, my parents -believe it or not- were pretty strict. I had a curfew, my phone would get confiscated etc. The freedom to choose what I wanted to wear was my one reprieve. No one could tell me what I was wearing was "wrong", and I still love the feeling of looking into the mirror knowing I've put together a good outfit. Call it shallow- but its still an achievement or sorts! This is going to sound like the worst cliche ever but when it comes to complete freedom of expression- fashion is the one place where that holds true and don't ever let anyone convince you otherwise.

So.. today is the last day of the holidays. I don't know how I feel about school reopening really. On one hand it feels good having something concrete to do but on the other, I mean, its school.

I have so many trepidations about stepping into 2013. I feel like... a cube of jell-o. A quivering mass. Its going to be quite a life changing year, seeing as how I'll finally be graduating in April/May. I have zero plans for after and being a natural planner, you understand why this year feels extra daunting.

Ah well. Time isn't going to stop for me while I try and figure things out but I've got both fingers crossed that it'll all turn out alright! To anyone else out there who is going through the same thing, I raise my glass and wish you all the best.

ANYWAY. On to less depressing subjects..

Some mandatory food snaps taken at House @ Dempsey earlier at dinner! Courtesy of my spending prowess at Club21 stores, I managed to chalk up enough points to claim a voucher for $80 here. I even still have some points left over for small stuff like ice cream or whatever. The bill totally shot past the $80 mark though, so I really don't understand my glee about this whole "free dinner" thing.

The food's not that bad, but I probably wouldn't go back again. The service was pretty slow and the food was just alright. The sliders had a good chunk of meat but lacked flavour, my risotto looked so exciting until I tasted it, although the fries and meter long sausage were actually quite decent. Don't take my word for it though, I highly suspect my approval of the sausage is from the novelty of having something so oversized. Before any dirty thoughts come to mind, I would like to point out that I would probably feel the same way if it were an oversized glass of coke.

I shall go watch some mindless TV and go to bed because good god, there's school tomorrow.

I spend the weekend helping out at the Just Nice/O$P$ booth at Comic Con. Now, i'm the last person I know who would be seen at Comic Con, but I had fun. Plus Ben bought me this awesome pair of kitty paws, which for some reason made me feel a lot happier than I did buying Chanel.

Which made me think, i've been blogging so much about shopping and outfits and eating out and partying that someone who doesn't know me would think i'm some air-headed materialistic party girl. (Not that I care, mind you, it's just a random thought, and I promise this is leading to somewhere).

We chase happiness, or rather, we try to bury all that innate unhappiness through materialistic and tangible means, often too busy doing so to realize that the concept of happiness is not so straightforward. (I have zero idea why i'm thinking such things at 2am when I have a thousand deadlines to meet in 12 hours but there you go.) Am I happy? Right now, despite having face cream slathered all over, in crappy pajamas and my hair a mess (everything I would hate if it were day time) I am. Maybe it's because of a certain someone who is taking up half the bed space as I type this, or maybe it's the knowledge that i'm skipping morning class tomorrow, who knows. I do know though, that I wouldn't trade any of this for all the Chanel or YSL in the world.

It's really about the simple things, specifically, YOUR simple things. Happiness is fleeting, there is no denying that. It lasts for only a moment before it's gone. I think the sooner we understand that and be appreciative of those albeit fleeting moments, the closer we'll come to understanding it. I know the whole concept of happiness isn't so simple but maybe we should ask ourselves why we keep questioning and making it a hell lot more complicated than it already is.

I've been so wrapped up with school and going out recently that I haven't really had the time to actually process the last 5 weeks. When it gets intense I tend to get caught up in it all without realizing how fast i'm going? It's a cliche but I do try to stop and smell the roses, it makes me a little happier and hey, not complaining! I'm glad I went to Comic Con, I needed it (and I won't ever say another snide thing about it again).

xx Have a good week kids!

Pictures from Boon's belated birthday at Butter! We went on the same night as SPKRZ's second night at Butter, which explains the extra accessories on everyone. It was craaaazy! I'm going to figure out a way to upload the videos of the lights because together with the music, it was just mindblowing. I know, i'm being such a fangirl but i'm a sincere fangirl! I don't rave about things casually but y'know if you don't believe me, you should definitely go down and check it out for yourselves!

Anyway, a little birthday love shoutout to Mr Boon Tan! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I'm sorry I didn't get a card or anything (mainly because i'm quite embarrassed by the way my handwriting has deteriorated). It's been about a year since I decided to be less dao (according to Jeremy) and y'know, try to be more sociable in school and i'm glad I did because you are an awesome friend- one whom I terribly jealous of at times because you are so talented!!! You always say you're not good enough for the industry but I honestly think that you're selling yourself short and I know that one day, you will be hailed as one of Singapore's greatest Creative Directors (I hate being wrong and now that all this is public, please ah, become famous one day ok). I didn't get to drink with you that night because I was unwell but I promise the next time we're going to go all out! Here's to many, many more years of friendship, no matter which part of the world we might be in then. XX

I read this somewhere and wanted to share it with you guys:
Your father was amazing. I see him in my mind's eye now, in his element, during the prime of a wonderful life. His energy, his passion, it was overwhelming. The way he embodied his music was like watching a dance of the winds as it glides through the earth. I love him so much.

In fact, no one knows how much I long for him, how every fibre of my being wished so, so hard that he was here. It's a dull sensation, merely throbbing and yet, so tormenting. Each throb that resonates through me stirs the quiet pool of the dormant pain, causing waves of anguish. It's literally heartbreaking- one needle like shard each time.

I would give the world to protect him. Anything. To the very nerves of his body, to each hair follicle. To even the air around him. Nothing could be disturbed. That smile that goes right to his eyes, not to quiver in neither doubt nor distress, ever.
