First up, a very, very happy Lunar New Year to everyone out there reading this! Here's to prosperity and health in the year of the Horse! As we say in Singapore, huat ah!

This look is my contribution to the sea of red that awash my city around this time every year. I've never really done the whole wear-red-on-chinese-new-year thing (especially ever since I was old enough to dress myself), so I thought since my hair is red this year, I'd just go for it! That and the fact this shirt came on time.

In other news, I'll be going to Boracay in a couple weeks so if anyone's got recommendations for food or whatever, hit me up!

Another cocktail tasting yesterday, so this look was my take on 1950s reporter look, minus the suspenders. I think I'm going to wear these pants everywhere from now on.

So in other news, I'm very happy to report that my hair is now officially long enough to make a mockery of real ponytails elsewhere. Also, the reason my belly button looks so weird is due to a navel piercing gone wrong back in the day. #noregrets

I would also like to take this opportunity to shamelessly do a little bit of promoting for the Instagram accounts I run as part of my plan to keep myself in food and clothing. If you've got IG (c'mon who doesn't), do me a favour and follow: @drinksomewhere and @thetonsociety (one's all about booze and the other cool designer shizz). Much love!

Arm Cuff Asos
Necklace alienina via Bottica

A quick one on the outfit I wore out to dinner last night! If you squint hard enough, you'll see the thick rubber necklace that boys apparently, cannot understand. I decided to wear this maxi dress as a skirt by layering a mildly perforated top over it and just to confuse people for the heck of it- an arm cuff. Is it beach look? A tribal look? I don't even think I know.

A look I put together for an easy date night out with the bf- can I just say how much I love the versatility of denim? I'm not a very jeans and t-shirt kind of girl but its such a comfortable combination I might try working it into my rotation more often! Of course, me being me, I had to throw on some ridiculous heels and these Jennifer Chous were perfect. I like how they look like regular heels from far away but are secretly very attention seeking.

(Sorry about the weird contrast/brightness thing going on. I have yet to master flash photography.)

Coat and Dress China Scarf and Boots Hong Kong Gloves H&M Bag Chanel Earcuff The Quiet Riot

I mentioned a couple of posts back about my new found obsession with bling in my ears- well it doesn't get any more bling than this, does it? I love this ear cuff and its endless styling possibilities and I'm pretty excited to try it out with ripped jeans!

I styled this look with comfort in mind, because we were going to explore the 'hipster' area of Paris that day which meant a lot of walking and metro stairs. I went for my typical palette of no more than 2 colours, decided it looked too plain, and added this plaid scarf for a pop of print. Gloves a must, because I remember it being one of the colder days that week. I think if I lived in a country with winter, this would be my default outfit template!

So the hipster part of Paris is -according to the Internet- the Bastille and Le Marais area. Its just a huge area full of tiny streets, cobblestone paths, an endless amount of cafes and shops like Barbara Bui and Karl Lagerfeld. We also stumbled upon the Jewish Quarter of Paris, where I had like, the most amazing falafel sandwich ever. Oh that falafel.

(As you can see, we also visited a cat cafe where I proceeded to bury my face in as many cats as possible)

It's roughly that time of year again where I'll a) steal photos off Style.com, b) gush over the images like a little schoolgirl and c) wish my dad was an oil sheik. Kidding I love my dad exactly the way he is, although it would be cool if I didn't have to sneak new shoes past him all the time.

So Alexander McQueen. I'm really digging this collection! The clothes and shoes are such a perfect balance of fantasy and real-world its unreal. I love how the looks seamlessly ease into the next, despite the drastic differences in colour. I love the toughness contrasted with the feminine silhouettes, the incredible detailing and oh my god those shoes. Every look is such a show-stopper, but when you really disassemble the individual pieces, you're in awe at how wearable they really are, which is really the beauty of the whole thing. Plus, don't you kinda want to be part of this cool-ass tribe and storm the streets of New York or something?

Fashion designers often speak about how their surroundings inspire their creations, but we never quite hear enough about how fashion can be inspiring. When I was in art school and I had assignments like designing posters and whatnot, one of my main sources of inspiration would always be taken from runway looks. A lot of people dismiss clothes as just well, clothes. And its understandable that few red-blooded males would watch a runway video of stick thin models glaring down upon the unworthy masses. But if you take all that aside, fashion is just another physical manifestation of art. If we can appreciate a nicely design poster, chuckle at cleverly crafted sentences and drool at a plate of perfectly seared steak, then we too can marvel at the intricate detailing of Dior, and as seen, Mcqueen. Appreciate the clean lines of Balenciaga and Celine and so on. Of course, I get that fashion ain't everyone's thing but I really dislike it when people just dismiss it without seeing fashion beyond pieces of fabric.

... which concludes all the brain power I'm expending for the rest of Saturday. The rain's started and I've got a long list of shows to catch up on. Happy weekend errone!

This was a look I styled with Hazyrah of Gnossem earlier this week for their Facebook Look of the Day album! Not my ideal outfit for the crazy heat that day, but I imagined working this somewhere colder (like Berlin) and that really helped. The pants, dress-worn-as-top and beautiful cashmere bracelet are all available at Gnossem's website!

Enjoy the last few hours of the weekend everyone, and have a good rest for the week ahead!

Dress ZAMRIE Shoes Jeffrey Campbell Bag Cheap Monday Necklace Shaun V

I wore this dress by ZAMRIE to a club opening because it is now officially the most photogenic dress I own. I'm really amazed by how comfortable it is for something so structured! Those sleeves are genius, don't you think? (I recommend throwing it over black skinnies + combat boots). To be honest, seeing how far this is from my usual palette of monochrome, I was slightly intimidated by it but I guess not all colour is evil!

Kidding, but I don't know what it is about ZAMRIE that makes me kind of want to add colour to my wardrobe. Then again, it was created by the super talented Ashely Zygmunt, who studied under none other than Zac Posen himself. I cannot wait to see the next collection!

By the way, get 50% off when you use the code 'MONA' at their webstore!

ps: I had the dress shortened to make it look normal on my 5' 3 frame!
